Big Sky Permaculture is pleased to offer the Productive Places program! As part of this service, Big Sky Permaculture will collaborate with you to identify the opportunities on your property for creating an a beautiful edible landscape in place of your lawn.  Using the principles of permaculture design, we will work together to create a landscape design that harnesses and stores all the rainwater on your property for irrigation, creates its own fertile soil, provides you with fresh and delicious food, and compliments your landscaping tastes to further beautify your property.

Charge for this service is affordably priced at $250.00.

Here's how the service works:

  • You and Big Sky Permaculture take an detailed inventory and survey of your property to identify its opportunities (such solar gain, local materials for use in the project, water harvesting and storage opportunities etc.).
  • Big Sky Permaculture will discuss with you your goals and ambitions for the project, and develop your understanding of permaculture design as it applies to your property.
  • Big Sky Permaculture will create a preliminary design and meet with you to discuss and refine it, based on your own landscaping preferences and goals. Big Sky Permaculture will then prepare you a final design.
  • The project gets implemented.

How you choose to implement the design is up to you.  Here are the typical options taken:

  • Option 1 - Implement the design on your own time and pace.
  • Option 2 - Have your project implemented during a Permablitz
  • Option 3 - Big Sky Permaculture will work with you on the implementation

Implementation

Implementation Option 1 - Implement project yourself

With this option, you simply implement the design yourself at your own pace.  Big Sky Permaculture will be on hand to answer any questions you have at no cost.

Implementation Option 2 - Implementation through Permablitz

Big Sky Permaculture regularly hosts a Permablitz, where interested community members looking for hands-on permaculture design experience come together to provide free labour to a homeowner's project in exchange for experience on a designated date.  As part of the Productive Spaces project, your site will be the host project for the Permablitz.  You provide the site, materials and food, and up to 25 interested persons converge for a fun and information-packed day where your design is implemented within the day (depending on size, it may be partially implemented). With this option, Big Sky Permaculture requests a reduced flat consulting fee of $200.00 (equivalent to about $25.00 per hour).

Implementation Option 3 - Big Sky Permaculture Implementation

If you prefer, you have the option of hiring Big Sky Permaculture to work with you to implement the project at our standard consulting rate of $60 per hour.
